At the beginning of the economic downturn, Marion Wijnberg got a call from a friend requesting some freelance administrative help. Recently laid off from her advertising job, Marion was quick to comply.
According to Marion, "It was after a few months of working on projects, sales, copy writing for the website, proofing and editing that it occurred to me. I said to myself, `There has to be a definite career and professional word for this type of work.'"
After researching the type of tasks she was doing for her client, she came across the term "virtual assistant."
"Voila! There it was, just staring back at me!"
On May 1, 2010, Marion launched iTask Virtually, LLC, targeting companies who realize that, despite downsizing, they still need to get the job done. iTask Virtually assists clients remotely, with no payroll taxes, overhead costs, or temporary agency fees. With no wasted time standing by the water cooler, a virtual assistant gets the job done efficiently and cost effectively. Clients can hire Marion for last-minute tasks, or can book her for recurring services up to one month in advance.
iTask Virtually offers a wide range of services, from simple tasks like appointment reminders to more unusual tasks like "mystery shopping", where Marion observes her client's workplace to identify inefficiencies. "Believe me, I have observed a lot of wasted company dollars," Marion says. "I think my favorite part of my job is making that client happy, giving them the results they want when they want it. Also, there are no barriers: I can do anything a client needs done. If I don't know it, I learn it. I meet some great people from all over the world and can work with anyone from anywhere."
